Weather Defence®

Weather Defence is a rigid air barrier used behind façade cladding systems. It is most commonly used in ventilated façade or rain screen.

Weather Defence provides the quickest way to achieve a weathertight building, allowing internal trades to keep working in inclement weather conditions.

Its excellent vapour permeability makes Weather Defence suitable for colder climates. It is classified as vapour permeable Class 4 and is recommended for use in Climate Zones 2 to 8. In Climate Zone 1, it is recommended to apply a vapour barrier over the external surface.

Being a plasterboard product, it is classified as non-combustible in terms of the NCC, making it suitable for use in external walls of high-rise buildings. Weather Defence is certified for use in various fire-rated systems where an FRL is required.

Weather Defence can help installers to achieve the airtightness targets required to contribute to a building’s energy efficiency and allow any glasswool insulation in the cavity to perform as intended by avoiding wind washing.

It also improves the acoustic and thermal performance of the façade.

Applications:

  • Suitable for enclosing a building to provide a weathertight barrier.
  • When used in a system, can provide an FRL (Fire Resistance Level) of up to -/120/120 or 90/90/90 when required by the Building Code of Australia.
  • Can be used in the construction of residential buildings (Building Classes 1-3) in bushfire zones. In this application it can wrap the entire building including the walls, roof and eaves to protect the structure during a bushfire.
  • Classified as vapour permeable Class 4 and is recommended for use in Climate Zones 2 to 8
  • Helps control the risk of condensation build-up within wall spaces.

Benefits:

  • Suitable for use in non-combustible external façade systems
  • In a system, can provide the FRLs for external walls required by the Building Code of Australia
  • Safe and easy installation – simply score and snap
  • Can be left exposed for up to 12 months
  • Improves the acoustic and thermal performance of the façade
  • Helps to create a weathertight building, allowing internal trades to keep working in inclement weather conditions.
